I hope the weather is nice enough for all of you to hang out today!  

The guy Shelagh Rogers was speaking to about this said that in some areas clothes lines are seen as "the flag of poverty" which is why some subdivisions and homeowners associations bann clothes lines.  I say if it is a "flag of poverty" we reclaim it as our own...  In all seriousness the first time I heard about clothesline banns I thought someone was pulling my leg.  One of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of. 

But when the average American (and I think it's the same for Canadians) use more energy to dry their laundry than the average African uses in total it totally gets my frugal gene in gear. 
 

I just got through hanging out a load of clothes! But I'd forgotten this is National Hanging Out Day, thanks for the reminder.

Well, without knowing it, I will be celebrating hanging out day. Monday and Thursday are my laundry days and it's gorgeous here today so I should get some mileage out of the sun.

Yes, Pat...I am going to rest at some point...after I am done with laundry, figuring percents for the budget and....heheheheh. It is a beautiful day, I think I am going to go and sit outside for awhile and read a novel for pure fun in between laundry loads.

I wonder how many other people hang clothes outside to dry? We have a nice breeze here today, so it's perfect weather for it. I hang clothes out in all kinds of weather, though.  

It gets really humid here so a cold and wet day doesn't do well with hanging laundry.

And I need someone to remind me that I need to put gloves on. I am soaking sheets and a blanket to handwash and my hands already feel dry.

 

 

I would be hanging out my laundry if I had a clothes line. I am hoping to get one before the summer is over.

Where we used to live we had neighbors complain about our clothes line.  They lived two houses down the street and I'm not really sure how they saw our clothes line.  When we moved to our current house, we made a point of making sure that clothes lines were allowed.  It is an older development and a lot of houses have lines out that have been there for well over 20 years.

 It is a shame but there are quite a few housing developments that it is written into their dead restrictions.

Yep, alot of subdivisions won't allow clotheslines. My late mother's retirement village did not either. they were terribly strict! Mom liked it that way LOL the spendthrift. They dictated :

1 what kind/year car you could drive (have parked in front of your home) No rust allowed. No water/oil spots on drive.

2. what your lawn looked like: how often to water and you must fertilize.

3. No gardens except directl in back of house out of sight and a tiny plot....no corn, etc. Maybe a few tomato plants. Flowers were allowed.

4. All homes in good repair and presentable. Driveways and sidewalks must be washed.

 

And this was a trailer park!!! Oh excuse me mobile home retirement village....no mobiles older than 15 years allowed...once it got that old you had to trade them in.

My apartment building does not permit lines to be hung between our building & next-door ones.  However, in tightknit immigrant communities in San Francisco, folks do so.

About half of my wash is delicates (I wash them in pillowcases, shut by heavy rubber bands).  They hang on the shower rails, on clotheshangers.  Everything dries overnight; there are no problems.

I agree that clothesline bans are quite absurd!
